防腐涂料防腐蝕機理是在金屬表面形成一層屏蔽涂層,阻止水和氧與金屬表面接觸。但有大量研究表明,涂層總有一定的透氣性和滲水性,涂料透水和氧的速度往往高于裸露鋼鐵表面腐蝕消耗水和氧的速度,涂層不可能達到完全屏蔽作用。涂料的防腐蝕作用是因為導電度降低而阻止了腐蝕的進行,雖然導電度高的涂料,防腐蝕能力的確不好,但導電度低的涂層,導電率和防腐蝕性能并沒有明確的關系,所以涂料與鋼鐵表面的濕附著力對防腐蝕起著重要的防腐作用。
